Iris Jones

Iris Marie Jones, of Safford, AZ, born April 23, 1935, went peacefully home to be with her Savior in the early morning hours on January 23, 2017, surrounded by her family. Iris was born in East Lyme, CT, to Julia and Ralph Parker. She enjoyed many things, knitting, cooking and others but mostly loved spending time with her church family. Iris was a member of City Wide Baptist Church in New London, CT. One of the things she loved most was baking goodies for the church fellowships. Iris married Leslie Jones on June 19, 1954 and was married until his passing on May 7, 1982 and she never married again. She made her home in New London until March of 2016 when she moved to Safford, AZ to be with her son Ralph and his wife Dawn. Another of her loves was spending time with her sister, Audrey Skinner. Iris worked most of her life, early in life she was a waitress for Penellas and later retired from Stop & Shop in 1992. She is survived by her son Ralph (Dawn) Jones of AZ and Mickey Jones of FL. She is also survived by her sister Audrey Skinner of CT, 2 grandchildren; Isaiah Jones of Uncasville CT and Jason Jones of Savanah GA and 2 great-grandchildren; Miranda and Cassandra Jones also of Savanah GA. Iris was preceded in death by her husband Leslie Jones, Sr., her son, Leslie Jones, Jr. and her daughter, Mary Jones. In lieu of flowers please make any donations to City Wide Baptist Church in her name; 325 Broad Street, New London CT 06320. A Memorial service will be held at a later date.
