James D. Craig, a cherished soul and beloved brother, was born on December 27, 1963, in Riverton, Wyoming. He embraced life with an adventurous spirit and a love for music that resonated throughout his years. His journey came to an unexpected close on January 8, 2025, in Thatcher, Arizona, leaving behind a tapestry of memories that weave through the hearts of those who loved him.
James graduated from Safford High School in 1982, where he laid the foundation for a life filled with creativity and passion. He found immense joy in music, proudly serving as the bass guitarist for the "Pocket Change Band-AZ." His talent brought laughter and rhythm to many gatherings, filling lives with the joy that only music can provide.
A devoted protector, James served as a proud survivor of Desert Storm in the U.S. Army. This experience shaped him in ways that lingered throughout his life, shaping his resilience and commitment to his loved ones.
He leaves behind his loving sisters, Carolyn Antillon and Teri (Ray) Thiesson, as well as his brother, Mike (Cindy) Vindiola. The bonds he fostered with his many nieces, nephews, and cousins filled his life with laughter and love. They will remember him as a source of encouragement and fun—a generous spirit who took joy in nurturing the hearts of the young and young at heart.
James is now reunited with those who predeceased him, including his parents, Dean Oscar Craig and Helen Pacheco Craig, who undoubtedly welcomed him with open arms, and his sister, Mary Ellen Bencomo. Their absence is felt deeply, but their memories continue to shine brightly through the stories shared by James's family.
A Memorial Gathering and jam session in celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, January 19, 2025, beginning at 12 noon at the American Legion Swift Murphy Post 32, located at 531 South 11th Avenue, Safford, AZ 85546. The family invites all who knew James to come together in remembrance, to share laughter, stories, and perhaps a song or two, honoring the vibrant life he lived and the impact he made on so many. His burial will be held on Tuesday, January 28th beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the Safford Cemetery with the Gila Valley Honor Guard presentation.
James D. Craig will forever be remembered for his deep love of music, his unwavering loyalty to family and friends, and his enduring spirit. May we hold his memory close, carrying forward the joy he brought into our lives.
