James Larry Laws came into the world on June 6th 1941 and returned to his heavenly home on September 2nd 2024. James was born to Frank and Laura Katherine Laws in Glencove Texas, the youngest of six children. James was known as a mischievous and rambunctious child that was a force to be reckoned with. After completing high school, James served his country by joining the Air Force in 1964 and received an honorable discharge following completion of his duties. He often spoke of his adventures in Europe coupled with his comical stories involving his fellow airmen and his notorious VW beetle. Following his time in the military, James pursued his career in mining when he met his wife and love of his life, Glenda Margarita Navarro, whom he married in 1976. James and Glenda had an original story, meeting when they both couldn’t speak each other’s language, Glenda originating from Sonora, Mexico. Despite what some may conceive as a cultural and language barrier, James and Glenda had a beautiful life together for 48 years, up until his heavenly departure. Their marriage could be described as a sitcom and timeless love story. The love and devotion they shared blossomed into a family and life in Arizona where their children were raised.
James was well known for his unconventional and original creativity with music, writing, painting, and building. He played beautiful piano, guitar, violin, harmonica and mandolin, where he was regularly welcomed to play at parties and events. There was nothing he couldn’t create. Primarily, James was known for his loving warmth and generosity which many remember fondly. James was unequivocally selfless, hard working, brilliant, humble and devoted to his wife and children while practicing as a devout Christian. James was dedicated to our Lord and Savior and practiced avidly in the church where he shared his love for the Bible. James was a true example of a Christian, welcoming everyone with open arms and an abundance of love.
Most importantly, James is remembered for his booming and contagious laugh, his infectious humor and true joy of life. His quote that will always be remembered is, “Learn to laugh”. His humor could brighten up an entire cloudy sky, bringing sunshine with him wherever he went. James could bring a laugh out of anyone with minimal effort and his abundant wisdom was plentiful to make even the worst of situations better and hopeful. Wise beyond his years, he was always capable of seeing the good and the hope in anything that life threw at him.
James was, without a doubt, a one-of-a-kind soul that can never be replaced.
A loving father, James is survived by his six children James, Mary Katherine, David, Charles, Laura and Elizabeth. He is survived by his wife and soulmate Glenda M. Laws and their beautiful fourteen grandchildren who remember their papa fondly.
James will be sorely missed, but never will he be forgotten. Until we meet in heaven again, and may he always be watching over his loved ones, forevermore.
