Send Flowers Jerry Taylor May 8, 1931 - February 28, 2012 Jerry D Taylor passed away at home in Pima on Tuesday, February 28, 2012. Born May 8, 1931 to Oscar K Taylor and Fidelia Dodge Taylor, Jerry was raised in Pima. When young, he contracted Polio that affected one leg. He never let that stop him, and lettered in basketball, football and baseball in high school. He was an outstanding pitcher. Many baseball games have been played in his front yard with his grandchildren Jerry pitching for both teams. Jerry met his sweetheart, Leona Foutz, when she was 16. A girl from Thatcher! They married and were soon sealed in the Mesa AZ Temple. Active in the LDS church, Jerry served in many callings. Jerry and Leona served Spanish food dinners to hundreds each year in the old Thatcher Church St. building. Jerry was a hard worker and his children were taught honesty and integrity in their work ethics. He worked at Weech and Taylors, beehives, wood sales and a wrecker service. He owned the Shell Station with Lamell Pollock then as sole owner, and the Tastee Freez. T&S Livestock and Hay was started with Dale Stringfellow. Jerry also worked with Ray and Nayda Luster, running ambulance for the west end of the valley. Many of these endeavors were run at the same time, with long hours and sacrifice. While Leona lingered in their home for many years, Jerry felt her loss. They were best friends, traveling the country with family, high school sweethearts who stayed strongly in love, business partners, and strong, loving parents and grandparents. When Leona passed this past Christmas day, Jerry knew the loss of his lifetime love. In 61 years of marriage, they had rarely been apart. To be able to go home to her in such a short time has been his fondest wish. They will be missed more than can be expressed. Jerry and Leonas children are Ginger (Phil) Faucette of Kearny, Steve (Lisa) Taylor of Central, Jonnet (Russell) Woods of Pima, Deanna (Gary) Mangum of Thatcher and Sheryl (Joseph) Goodman of Pima. They have 21 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren. Jerry had twin sisters, lost at birth, Louise and Lucille, brother Kal, lost as a child, brother Lavon, a pilot shot down during WWII, and sisters Dorothy, Burma and Doreen. Love you Dad.
