Jimmy Spurgeon

April 16, 1950 — October 18, 2021

Jimmy Spurgeon Jimmy Spurgeon passed away in his home, in Oracle, Arizona, on Monday, October 18, 2021. He was 71 years old. Jimmy was born on April 16, 1950, in Muleshoe, Texas, but he lived all his life in Arizona. Jimmy grew up in San Manuel. He graduated from San Manuel High School in 1968 then attended college at Brigham Young University and the University of Arizona. He went on to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Tennessee, then obtained a degree from Central Arizona College. Jimmy married the love of his life, Nada Martin, on September 20, 1974. They had four amazing children: Nathan (Amy), Karissa (Scott), Tyler (deceased), and Maeghan. Jimmy was the proud grandpa to four grandchildren: Ada (deceased), Sam, Sophie, and Ollie. Jimmy was always a hard worker and took pride in always having a job to support his family. He had several jobs, but most of his career was devoted to copper mining around Arizona. Most of his mining career was spent being a pipefitter, and his friends and coworkers often called him "Pipee." Besides working in the mines to provide for his family, Jimmy loved working around his house, happiest when he had a home improvement project. He fixed, built, and grew a beautiful space for his family. Jimmy found peace in simple pleasures. He loved reading, listening to music, cooking, and gardening. Jimmy was particularly fond of trees and surrounded his home with lovely gardens and as many trees as he could. Jimmy was a great storyteller. Whether he was waxing philosophical about something deep he'd read or telling a joke, Jimmy had a knack for being able to talk to people. Jimmy loved the gospel of Jesus Christ and was driven by the desire to live up to the teachings of the church. He made us think. He made us laugh. He made us appreciate the good around us. A viewing will be held on Saturday, October 30, 2021, from 9:00 until 9:30 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 10:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Catalina chapel located at 55 W.
