Jo Ann Mullen was born on October 31, 1933 to parents William S. Matlock & Lenvil Ora Kinsley Matlock in Fort Sumner, New Mexico. She passed away with loved ones by her side on December 1, 2023 at 90 years of age at Essential Care in Safford AZ.
Jo Ann grew up in New Mexico and graduated with her teaching degree from the University of Albuquerque. She taught school in a one-room schoolhouse where she taught her younger brothers Alfred & Richard amongst other students. She went on to work at Super X & Motorola. On February 28, 1953 she married William R. Guymon, Jr and together they had 7 children. They divorced in 1973. Then, on September 7, 1974, she married the love of her life, Willie D. "Chocky" Mullen and from this union she became the step-mother to two more.
She was a strong woman who enjoyed spending her time outdoors; hunting, fishing, camping and attending mountain man rendezvous, as well as doing many crafts and activities such as sewing, cooking, canning, weaving, painting and whittling.
Jo Ann is preceded in death by her parents, William & Lenvil Matlock, her husband Willie Mullen, brother William O. Matlock, daughter Linda Burgener, granddaughter Janee Quiroz, and great-grandsons Tyler Anderson & Johan Monzingo.
She is survived by her two brothers; Alfred (Kay) Matlock and Richard Matlock, six children; Nelda (Donald) Mann, William Reed (Terry) Guymon, M. Joan (Melton) Stegall, Susan (Randall Flanagan) Monzingo, Janet Guymon and Shelly O'Neal, as well as two step-children Steven (Elizabeth) Mullen and Diane Bonine. She is also survived by 28 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren, and 34 great-great grandchildren.
