Biography Joseph R. Lockwood, 87 passed away January 18, 2011 in Ridgefield, Washington. Joe was born December 23, 1923 in Payson, Arizona to Roy and Sarah Lockwood. Joe graduated from Globe High School and served in the Army during World War II. He married the love of his life, Doris Babe, in Reserve, New Mexico on June 9, 1944. The young couple moved to Morenci where Joe was employed by Phelps Dodge. He worked for the company for 42 years, retiring as a civil engineer. Joe was a dedicated member of the BPOE Elks Lodge in Clifton and served as Exalted Ruler & Grand District Deputy Past Exalted Ruler. He was also a member of the Greenlee County Sheriffs Posse, County Search & Rescue, and the Lions Club in Ridgefield Washington. Joe was an avid reader, enjoyed cooking, and had a great connection around animals especially horses. He enjoyed traveling and in his later years was able to take a world tour with his son in law. Joe will be remembered for the countless hours spent in the community volunteering wherever he was needed and by the many people he touched through his life of service. Joe was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Babe Lockwood and is survived by his daughters Sharyn Jo (Joe D.) Tanner of Washington and Jacqueline Gillespie of California, son in law Rick Gillespie of Oregon, grandchildren Jeff Gillespie, Jason Gillespie, Justin Gillespie, Jeremy Gillespie, Jenna Gillespie, Kristen Tanner, Justin Tanner and Tiho Nedkov, great grandchildren Patrick Gillespie, Dylan Gillespie, and Gavin Gillespie. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 28, 2011 from 6 - 8 p.m. at the Caldwell Funeral Chapel. Funeral Services will be conducted Saturday, January 29, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the Caldwell Funeral Chapel. Interment will be in the Wards Canyon Cemetery in Clifton. Memorial Contributions may be made to the County Search & Rescue.
