Funeral services will be conducted June 2 at 2 pm in the Central LDS Chapel with viewing 1 hour prior to services. Friends may call at Caldwell Funeral Chapel 112 E Main St. on Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. Interment will be in the Central Cemetery with military honors provided by the Gila Valley Honor Guard. John Edward Ferguson, 79 of Central passed away May 27, 2009 in Safford after a lengthy illness. John was born May 3, 1930 to Melvin Porter Ferguson and Matilda Marie Ferguson. As a young child John attended Thatcher Schools. Early in life he learned to work hard, whether working in the fields picking cotton, bucking hay or working livestock. This lesson he applied throughout his entire life. In 1948 John joined the Navy. He married Loveda Pennington. They had four children John Melvin, Marla, Michelle, and Kenneth. Later they adopted Rhonda. During this time John worked various jobs throughout the valley. In 1964 John went to work for the state of Arizona as a Cattle Inspector. This was a job he loved very much, retiring in 1989. In 1995 John married Earlene Watson. They shared many loving years together until his death. John is survived by his wife Earlene, Sisters Rinda Lou Carter and Rose Marie Hartnell, children Marla Cooper, Michelle Dela Cruz, Kenneth Ferguson, and Rhonda Lawson, daughter-in-Law Martha Ferguson, thirteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren. John was a loving husband, brother, father, grandpa and most of all a Friend. He will be greatly missed and loved by all who knew him.
