John Nelson Gardner Big Red Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, Aug 29, 2009 at the age of 77. John was born December 19, 1931 in Delta, UT to Eugene and Gene Lovell Gardner. He served in the US Navy then graduated from the U of U with a BS in Metallurgical Engineering. He married Lueen Evans in the SL Temple on Aug 30, 1957. They raised five children in Santa Cruz, CA where he worked as an aerospace engineer. He was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as a bishop. The family relocated to SLC where John continued his career with Lockheed until the time of his passing. His greatest adventures were escorting rocket motors by rail where he watched the country side roll by from the top seat of a coal stove heated caboose. He was an active member of the Wasatch Gem Society with an extensive collection of rocks , gems and minerals that he collected from across the western deserts. John is survived by his wife, Lueen Gardner; children: Paul, Susan, Bryan, Lisa and Traci; 14 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; siblings: William, Larry and Muriel.
