John Pearson

John Victor Pearson 1951 ~ 2010 On September 18, 2010 John, who suffered from cancer, passed away into the waiting embrace of his Savior. He is survived by his wife, Peggy Smith Pearson; children (from a previous marriage) Rachel, Rebekah, Sarah (Gary) Schvaneveldt and John Andrew (Kristina); grandson, Deacon; mother, Kathrine Selsor; brother, Tom (LeAnn), and sister Ruth (Ken) Nygaard. He was preceded in death by his father, Evert Eldon Jr. John was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. A talented lyricist, he has been called one of the finest hymn text writers the world has known and has had over 100 hymn texts published. One of his treasured experiences was singing as a member of the Tabernacle Choir. John was a Lieutenant Colonel who served twenty years in the Utah National Guard followed by ten years in the Army Reserves. He also fulfilled the roles of teacher, principal, computer programmer and database administrator. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 24, 1:00 p.m. at the Jacobs Ranch 1st Ward, 267 West Weatherby Dr., Saratoga Springs. A viewing will be held Thursday, September 23, 6-8:00 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road, and again at the church Friday, 12-12:45 p.m. Interment, East Lawn Memorial Hills Cemetery, 4800 East Lawn Drive, Provo. Full Military Honors will be provided by the U.S. Army Reserves.
