Monnie "Joleta" Levy, 92, of Safford, passed away on Monday, February 22, 2016 in Safford. She was born July 2, 1923 in Ada, OK, to Dewey Rance & Bessie Zena Owens Bowerman. She attended schools and graduated from high school in Ada. She married Ira Burk in 1939 and they were blessed with two sons, Ira & Kenneth. In 1942 the family moved to Morenci, AZ. Her husband, Ira, passed away in 1957 and Joleta began working for the Center market in Morenci in 1958 where she worked as a cashier until 1972. In 1959 she married Ace Levy in Safford, AZ. Ace passed away in 1975. Joleta was active in the Odd Fellows with the food distribution services until 1985 and loved serving the community.She had a love for fishing, gardening, crocheting, and especially her dog "Sophie". Her crocheting was sold all over the United States. She really enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.Joleta is survived by her daughter-in-law, Patti Burk, two granddaughters; Kristi English & Kimberly Valencia, brother, Bob Bowerman of Catalina, AZ and sister, Corky Blair of Tucson, AZ, 5 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren with one on the way.She is preceded in death by both of her husbands; Ira Burk and Ace Levy, parents; Dewey and Bessie Bowerman, sons; Ira Dewayne and Kenneth Merrill Burk, siblings; Buel Bowerman, Sonny Bowerman, Juanita Meek and Noeta Hively, and one great-granddaughter, Saylah Anne. A viewing will be held on Friday, February 26, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. with the funeral services to follow at 10:00 a.m. at the McDougal Caldwell Funeral Chapel. Interment will be in the Safford Cemetery.
