Jose Gonzales

Jose R. Gonzales passed away at the home of his daughter in Safford, Arizona on June 11, 2013 at the age of 89. Jose was the last surviving member of his immediate family born to Angel and Secundina Gonzales on November 22, 1923 in Clifton, Arizona. He had five brothers and four sisters Alfredo, Albert, Manuel, Ernesto, Raynaldo, Henriguetta, Maria, Matilde, and Eloisa. Quate as he was known to all who knew him spent his entire life in Clifton and Safford area, aside from his military service in the U.S. Navy during World War II, honorably discharged in 1946. He returned to Clifton and resumed to work for Phelps Dodge and retired in 1984 after 41 years of service. He enjoyed family, friends, and hunting as only a life in Clifton can offer. Shortly after his retirement, health issues altered his lifestyle, but he retained a positive attitude towards life, family, and faith. He continued to hunt in a limited capacity into his early 80s. Quate is survived by his four children Mary Dominguez, Sylvia Baker, Antonio and John Gonzales. Six grandchildren Chris, Michelle, and Steven Dominguez, Robert and James Baker, Jonika Gonzales and five great-grandchildren Alivia and Andrew Baker, Gavin, Savannah, and Anthony Rene Dominguez II. He was predeceased by his wife of 51 years Frances Lucio Gonzales, sons Joe Jr. and Robert, and grandchildren Anthony Rene Dominguez and Brian Baker. Viewing will be held at McDougals Caldwell Funeral Chapel in Safford on Thursday June 20, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Rosary will be led at 8:00 AM, Friday, June 21, 2013 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 9:00 A.M. with Celebrant, Rev. Father Martin Atunga. Interment will be at the Sacred Heart Cemetery.
