Our beloved brother, uncle, and great uncle, Jose Serna, left this world peacefully on July 28, 2011 at his home in Clifton, Arizona. He was a hundred years old. He was born in Villa Hildalgo, Jalisco, Mexico to Navidad and Melquiades Serna. He arrived in EL Paso, Texas on September 8, 1911 at the age of four months. Uncle Joe became a naturalized citizen on May 11, 1948. Uncle Joe worked for Phelps Dodge for thirty- four years and was described by many as an honest, hardworking individual. He started as a laborer, carpenters helper, and leadman. He retired in October 10, 1975 at the age of sixty-four. Uncle Joe's greatest pride was his garden and yard that he took great care in tending. He was always eager to show everyone his wonderful harvest and nobody left his home empty handed. Every visitor went home with an armful of his loving work. Nothing would bring a bigger smile to Uncle Joe's face than seeing someone at his front door. He was a wonderful host and wanted everyone to be as comfortable as possible while in his home. He loved visitors and had many, relatives, friends, and neighbors. He was a gentle soul who will be missed by many, many people He is survived by his brother, Uncle Tony Lopez(Aunt Millie) of Tucson, Aunt Emma Buttner of Safford, Aunt Ruth Sipek also of Tucson, and nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews too numerous to name. Uncle Joe lived his life loving and caring about everyone If someone went to him with a need, he did all he could and more to fulfill that need. He was our angel on earth. Uncle Joe, we love you and we will miss you greatly, but we will never forget you.
