Joseph Asay

June 12, 1954 — May 19, 2010

Joseph Edward Asay Conductor Joe Joseph Edward Asay, our loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, returned home to his Heavenly Father on May 19, 2010. He was born June 12, 1954 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Verl and LaVaun Asay, and spent most of his life in the Taylorsville area. Joe graduated from Cottonwood High School in 1972 and from Salt Lake Community College. He also attended the University of Utah. He served an honorable LDS mission to Ontario, Canada. Joe married the love of his life and his best friend, Arlene Wolf, on November 14, 1975, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He faithfully served in many callings in his church including: cub master, young mens president, varsity coach, counselor in the bishopric, high counselor, high priest group leader and physical facilities assistant. He was known to many in his family and around the neighborhood as Conductor Joe because of his great love for trains. He was lovingly called Papa Choo Choo by his grandsons, and with the help of his family and good friends he built two trains for them to enjoy together. Joe was employed by the University Hospital for over 20 years and worked with many wonderful people. He had the ability to put a smile on many faces with his sense of humor and will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife, Arlene, daughter Nichol (Shawn), son Tyson (Kidist), grandsons Preston, Daxton (father: Joseph Blake) and Keenan, sisters, Kaye Baldwin and Sharon Ray. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Verla Jean Anderson. The family wishes to thank the paramedics and medical staff at Salt Lake Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be May 24, 2010, 12:00 noon at the Taylorsville 10th Ward Chapel, 4950 South 1950 West. Family and friends may call on Sunday, May 23, 2010, from 6-8 pm, at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road, and on Monday at the church from 10:30-11:40 am. Interment, Valley View Memorial Park.
