Biography Joseph Joe Lloyd Smith, 80, of Pima, entered into rest on Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at his home in Pima, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 19, 1931 in Perryville, Missouri, to Harvey Smith and Edith Mattingly. He married Edna Ann Fawcett on December 13, 1953 in Las Cruces, NM. Joe attended school in Missouri. Joined the U.S. Navy and was stationed at the great Lakes Training Center, White Sands Missile Range, and on the U.S.S. Randolph in the Mediterranean. He was a carpenter in the Navy and was over Damage Control. After the Navy he worked for American Linen Supply Company in Las Cruces, in 1968 moved to Arizona to work for John Lord land and Cattle Company, the San Margarita ranch in Sasabe, AZ, and then as the Livestock Inspector for the State of Arizona. As a Brand Inspector he lived in Tucson, Kingman, Greenlee and Graham Counties, and then retired in Pima. Joe loved animals especially horses. He is survived by his wife Edna Ann of Pima; daughter, Joann Smith of Bullhead City, AZ; sons, Nathan (Tammy) Smith of Safford, and Norman (Karen) Smith of Duncan; 7 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings Earl, Floyd, Edwin, Donald, Freda, Melba, and Doris. Funeral services will be at 11 am on Saturday, October 15, 2011 at the Shepherd of the Valley Presbyterian Church in Safford, with Dr. Robin McDonald officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be in the Graham Cemetery.
