Juan Chavez Ruiz, Jr., 96 of Safford passed away at home on November 1, 2013. Juan was born September 3, 1917 to Jose Juan Ruiz, Sr. and Calletana Chavez. Juan worked as a machinist for Phelps Dodge and retired in 1980 after 30 years of service. His retirement allowed him to dedicate his time and be actively involved in the restoration of the San Jose Mission in San Jose, Arizona. Juan also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and traveling. Juan is survived by his children Robert, Rudy (Samantha), Raymond, Ruben (Ida), Richard (Gloria), Rachel (Tom) Pollack, Rebecca (Danny) Valenzuela, Rita, Rosanna and John Ruiz; siblings, Joe (Rosie) Ruiz and Lily (George) Madrid of Tucson; 37 grandchildren and 50 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Consuelo Carrasco Ruiz; daughter, Rosie Ruiz; daughter-in-laws, Louisa Ruiz and Paula Ruiz; and two granddaughters, Stephanie Ruiz and Dixie Jacquita Ruiz. A Viewing and Rosary will be conducted on Friday, November 8, 2013 beginning at 6:00 p.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Rosary will begin at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, November 9, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Interment to follow at the Safford Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to San Jose Mission in care of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in honor of Juan Ruiz, Jr. The mailing address is 2257 S. 1st Avenue, Solomon, Arizona 85551.
