Julia Jane Smith Grandma Jane Julia Jane Dillon Smith, 93, beloved wife and mother, cherished grandmother and friend, returned to her Heavenly Father June 30, 2008 in Salt Lake City, Utah to happily join her husband and sweetheart, Smitty, of 61 years, who preceded her in death April 19, 2002. Julia Jane, the only daughter of Charles Edward and Lucina Clair Tannenberger Dillon, was born December 14, 1914 in Rossville, Atascosa County, Texas at her parents farm. She weighed less than two pounds at birth and was kept warm in a lined shoe box on the oven door of a wood stove. On September 3, 1939 she married Sewell Orlando Smith in San Antonio, Texas where they moved and lived for the next 60 years. He was a carpenter and general contractor and she was a fabulously successful mom to their two children. They spent their lives being great parents and friends to all. She was a talented crafts person and loved reading, painting, quilting, embroidering, and crocheting. She loved helping others and could fix any hurt bird or animal brought to her to nurse. She and Pop spent many years as members of Hermann Sons (fraternal organization), Alamo Coin Club, various square dance clubs, 20 years as members of the Old Timers CB Club, a lifetime of farming, canning, fishing and cooking. Traveling was their passion getting to all 50 states. But her favorite thing was collecting people everywhere, befriending and giving handmade pincushions to all! Survived by daughter, Lucina (Art) Denman, Salt Lake City; son, Charles (Dodie) Smith, San Antonio, TX; grandchildren: Elizabeth Numbers, Sherry (Dan) Pennington, Rick Smith, Cindy Hazelzet, Debbie (Richard) Lemire, David (Mary) Denman; great-grandchildren: Saxon Numbers, Ryan and Jeremy Arndt, Danielle Pennington, Dylan Arthur Lemire; Jessica, Kayla and Michael Denman; Keith and Zack Kemp; Alexander Hazelzet; niece, Sherry (Tom) Young; nephews, Brian Doyle, Mike (Marion) Doyle, Larry (Mary Carol) Doyle. Funeral services to be held July 11, 2008, 11:30 a.m. at the Southside Funeral Home, 6301 South Flores Street, San Antonio, Texas. There will be a viewing on Thursday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment, San Jose Cemetery
