K Muir

May 28, 1924 — September 25, 2010

Gale Muir 1924 ~ 2010 Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister, Katheryne Gale Millward Muir, passed away from complications incident to age on September 25, 2010 in Colorado Springs. She was living with her daughter at the time and joined the International Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. Gale was born in Bennington, Idaho on May 28, 1924 to Addie Faun Weaver and Franklin Curtis Millward. Her mother later married George Quinney of Tremonton, Utah where Gale graduated from Bear River High in 1942. She graduated from Ricks College in 1945 and taught school in Burley, Idaho before attending BYU where she met and fell in love with Milton B. Muir, Jr. They were married May 12, 1947 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple and resided most of their lives in the East Millcreek area of Salt Lake. They moved to Riverton in 2005 and Milton passed away on June 4, 2007. Their posterity includes five children, 12 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Gale was blessed with the gift of music, not surprising as both her parents were accomplished musicians. Gale studied at the McKune School of Music as a young woman and taught piano to hundreds of children. She was loved by her students for making music fun. She was also a talented seamstress and quilt-maker for many brides and organizations. She loved to entertain in her beautiful home and welcomed everyone with wonderful home-cooked meals. She loved to golf, especially when she won a trophy. She was active in local politics and worked in the banking industry. Gale was a faithful member of the LDS Church and served all her life in many callings: Young Women's President and Camp Director, Relief Society Counselor, various callings in Primary, roadshow writer and director, and chorister/pianist many times. She was an incredible example of service and shared her talents right up to the end as she entertained for the Summit Glen Retirement Home in Colorado until three weeks ago. She will be missed by many. Gale is survived by her children, Joseph, Katheryne (Kalani MacGill), James (Esperanza), John (Lea 1961-89), and David (Cheri); 12 grandchildren: Kyle and Korey MacGill, Michele Balliett (Jed), Andrea Pettingill (Tim), Monica, Jason, and Ashleigh Muir, Liz Busby (George), Heather, Spencer, Michael, and Joshua Muir, and two great-grandsons, George and Noah Busby. Also by her sister, DeAnn Quinney Waddoups Morgan (Fred), and her brothers, Frank (Linda), Geoff (Margarita), and Phil (Narci) Millward. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 1, 2010 at noon at the East Millcreek 11th Ward Chapel, 2702 E. Evergreen Ave. (3435 S). A viewing will be held at the Church from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. prior to the service and on Thursday evening from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Interment at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, north entrance on 3300 South (approx. 1800 East).
