Karl Walker

October 28, 1925 — June 15, 2010

Karl Jennings Walker, Jr. 1925 ~ 2010 Beloved brother, husband, father and grandfather, Karl Jennings Walker Jr., of West Valley City, UT, left this earth peacefully June 15, 2010 surrounded by loved ones. Karl was born October 28, 1925 in Allendale, South Carolina, son of Karl Jennings Walker Sr. and Susan Eloise Kirkland Walker. He was well known for his desire to make others laugh through jokes and his incredible, scientific mind. Additionally, he will be remembered for his perseverance, determination, work ethic and giving nature. At age 84, Karl worked full time as a Chemist for OSHA in Salt Lake City for 37 years until he was diagnosed with Lou Gherigs disease in April of 2010. Served valiantly in WWII as a Corporal in the Marine Corp. Karl served our country in Iwo Jima and Guam. At age 24 he received his Bachelors Degree. He taught high school chemistry in Florida, New York, and California. Later, he earned a Masters degree in Chemistry from Brigham Young University 1973. Karl has been a living example of his faith and perseverance. He has been a seeker of truth his entire life. He was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1960 at the age of 35. Karl met Lorna B. Andrus in Long Beach, CA and they were married in the Oakland LDS Temple on September 2, 1967. Often passionate about his belief, Karl has served in many capacities in his church. He also devoted much time and energy to Family History and was compelled even in his last week of life to seek out and do the work for his ancestors. In addition, he was a great brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Karl is survived by his wife, Lorna Andrus Walker; brother, Edward K. Walker; his 6 children: Sherri Johnson, Douglas Walker, Gregory Walker, Brent Walker, Kimberli McCann, and Bryce Walker; and 14 grandchildren. We will forever cherish the laughs and hugs he gave us. We will live to remember what he taught us about hard work, determination and believing in ourselves. We will always be grateful for the way he warmed our cold hands, comforted our pains and was always there when we needed him. We love you, Dad. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 19, 2010, 1:00 p.m. at the Sunnyvale Ward, 3671 South Oldham St. (4180 W.) where viewings will be held Friday, 6-8 p.m. and Saturday, 11:30 a.m.-12:45 p.m. prior to services.
