Larry Rains

December 18, 1944 — August 20, 2012

Larry G. Rains, 67, died on August 20, 2012 in Safford Arizona. Larry was born on December 18, 1944 in Conway Arkansas to the late JC and Marcille Rains. He was the older of two children. At the young age of 6, Larry Gene and his family moved to Morenci Arizona. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United State Army and served his Country in the Vietnam War. On December 4, 1965, Larry married his beloved wife Marianne Jessy Wysong. They were married 41 years before her passing in 2007. He had a special place in his heart for his 5 children, Larry Dale (Kimberly), Brian (Celia), Jeffrey, Tammy, and Jeromy and his 7 grandkids Alexys, Krysten, Raymond, Shawn, Jacob, McKenzie and Payton. In the last few years, he had established a very special bond and companionship with Gail Flowers. He will forever be remembered by his loving family, along with countless other friends whom were blessed to know him. In 2006, Larry retired from Phelps Dodge Corporation after 30 years of services. He truly enjoyed sports, camping, fishing, and playing cards. He especially loved following the Dallas Cowboys and Arizona State Sundevils! In the 1980s he and a few of his very close friends took the opportunity to travel to Texas Stadium on two occasions to watch the Boys in person. In recent years, he found that following them from home, on his TV, was more his style. Larry touched the lives of many people with his big heart, smile, and generosity and maintained a trademark sense of humor all the way to the end. Larry is preceded in death by his wife, Marianne J. Rains, his parents JC and Marcille Rains. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 25, 2012 at the First Southern Baptist Church in Morenci, Arizona. The burial will be held at the Fort Bayard National Cemetery in Fort Bayard, New Mexico on Monday, August 27, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. (N.M. time).
