LaVaun Heaton Asay 1920 ~ 2009 LaVaun Heaton Asay, 88, our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister and friend, passed away June 14, 2009 after courageously enduring 8 years of cancer LaVaun was born September 30, 1920 in Alton, Utah to Lynn Hoyt Heaton and Lydia Wilson Heaton. She attended high school in Orderville and Kanab and married Elvin Verl Asay on September 7, 1942, shortly thereafter solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Together they had 8 children, 4 of whom died as infants. LaVaun was a faithful daughter of her Heavenly Father. She served 4 missions for the Church including one with her family, two with her husband, and one on her own at age 79. She served in every auxiliary and was a Jordan River Temple ordinance worker at the time of her death. She always felt her family was her greatest accomplishment. For 18 years she has been the matriarch of our family and our greatest example. Survived by daughters, Kaye (Kent) Baldwin, Sharon (Michael) Ray; son, Joseph (Arlene) Asay; 19 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild; brothers, Ken, Wilson. Preceded in death by her husband, Verl; oldest daughter, Verla Jean (Roger) Anderson; siblings, Luana, Amy and LeVoy; grandson-in-law, Danny Childers. Funeral services will be Thursday, June 18, 2009, 1:00 p.m. at the Taylorsville 10th Ward, 4950 South 1950 West. Friends and family may call on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road and on Thursday at the church from 12-12:45 p.m. Interment, Elysian Burial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, family suggests donations may be made to the Perpetual Education Fund. No more a stranger or a guest, but like a child at home.
