Lawrence Rast

December 25, 1919 — August 3, 2009

Lawrence R. Rast Larry Our beloved father and grandfather, age 89, passed away August 3, 2009. He was born Christmas Day, 1919 to James J. and Mabel Roberts Rast in Jacksonville, Florida, the youngest of four children. He served a mission for the LDS Church in the Northwestern States Mission. Married Doris Bryson in 1942 in the Salt Lake Temple. He served in the US Army during WWII and became an LDS Chaplain for 20 years, serving in Korea and Vietnam. During his military service he was stationed in Texas, Germany, Washington State and Hawaii where he retired and remained to teach religion and be the Foreign Student Advisor for the Church College of Hawaii (now BYU-Hawaii). He also worked at the MTC in Provo, Utah and was a sealer in the Hawaii Temple and the Jordan River Temple. He touched so many with his kindness and caring. Survived by two daughters: Michele (Larry) LeMone, Laie, Hawaii; Pam (Garth) Toone, West Jordan; sister, Ardis Price, Alpine; 8 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his wife, Doris; parents; sister, Edris; brother, William Rast. The family would like to express a special thanks to Hazen Care Center for their kindness, concern and care for our father. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 8, 2009, 11:00 a.m. at the Copper Hills 14th Ward, 9227 South Wildflower Lane (4900 West) where a viewing will be held 9:30-10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be in his beloved Hawaii at the Kaneohe Veterans Cemetery. He loved Hawaii and will finally be able to return. Me ke aloha, until we meet again.
