Leslie H. Cannon 1920 ~ 2009 Leslie Harman Cannon, age 88, passed away peacefully April 26, 2009 in West Valley City, Utah of natural causes. He was a caring father, grandfather, husband and friend. Les was born May 28, 1920 in Denver, Colorado, son of Nicholas Clements and Martha Davis Harman Cannon. He grew up in Granger, Utah and graduated from Cyprus High School in 1937 and from the University of Utah with a degree in Economics. Les served his country in the US Army for four years. He was discharged as Staff Sergeant with the 11th Aircraft Maintenance Unit and served in the Philippines during WWII. During some of his training he was stationed in La Junta, Colorado where he met a farm girl, Mildred Harwood, whom he always said he knew he would marry the moment he laid eyes on her. They were married February 25, 1944 in La Junta, Colorado and spent almost 61 years together before her passing in 2005. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple January 21, 1959. He missed her very much after passing. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving as a High Priest and the High Priest Secretary for over 30 years. He worked at Kennecott after the war and then spent 25 years working for the Bureau of Reclamation as a Public Utilities Specialist before he retired in 1983. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, expert marksman, loved to garden and enjoyed his daily walks. He is survived by sons: Leslie Jr. (Anne), Taylorsville and Randy (Karen), West Valley City; sister, Phyllis Chapman, West Jordan; 6 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mildred; daughter, Sherry Ellen. We would like to thank Hazen Nursing Home for their excellent long term care of dad, especially Darlene and Izzy who were his favorites. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the LDS Humanitarian Fund or the Perpetual Education Fund. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 1, 2009, 11:00 a.m. at the Taylorsville 4th Ward, 4310 South 3200 West. A viewing will be held Thursday, April 30, 2009, 6-8 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road and Friday at the church, 10-10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment, Valley View Memorial Park.
