Loren Nathaniel Miller, Sr., 54, of Bylas passed away May 28, 2014 in Tucson, AZ. Loren was born to Lawrence G. and Berlinda Talgo Miller in San Carlos on January 5, 1960. Loren attended East Fork Lutheran High School then on to Fort Thomas High School. Loren then went into the Indian Action Program learning building trades where he studied carpentry and learning to read blue prints. On October 19, 1978 he married Belva Esta Miller and in 1979 Loren began work with the Branch of Forestry in San Carlos and became a crew boss training southwest firefighters. Later he received training in Helitack and became a part of the engine crew stationed in Point of Pines. In 1987 Loren began training in traffic accident investigations at the University of Reno, Nevada. He then received training in San Carlos Tribal Court for Criminal Procedures and liking that so much he pursued Law Enforcement and Patrol Techniques with the Fish and Game Department. Loving that and wanting more he went on to Arizona Boating Laws and Accident Investigations. Being a man who loves knowledge he then went on to train in Stress Management and Basic Police Training with the Indian Police Academy and on to the Arizona Law Enforcement Officers Advisory Council at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Marana, AZ. He also attended the 4x4 Off Road Drivers Training and E.M.T. course in San Carlos. From all of this knowledge Loren was employed several times and in many positions: San Carlos Tribal Construction doing carpentry and roofing, as a Ranger with the San Carlos Recreation and Wildlife, San Carlos Tribal Police Department as a patrolman, with the Yosemite Park and Curry Company as a service person, Bureau of Indian Affairs Police Department as a police officer and Forrest Development Crew and Bureau of Land Management as a range technician. Lorens hobbies include collecting music (mostly oldies), war & western movies, beadwork and being outdoors camping and fishing. Loren is survived by his children Loren N. Miller, Jr., Ramona L. Miller, Lauralynn D. Miller, his mother, Berlinda T. Miller and his siblings; Gary Miller, Debra Miller, Brenda Grimes, Donna Nelee and Lance Miller. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Belva Esta Miller, and father, Lawrence Miller. A Wake for Loren will be held at the Miller residence in Bylas on Friday, June 6, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. with the funeral service being held on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at the First Miracle Church in Bylas. Interment will follow in the Black Point Cemetery.
