View the image gallery Lowell Dean Slusher, 91, of Safford, formerly of Carthage and Danville IL, passed away in Tucson, AZ on December 27, 2014. He was born on January 8, 1923 in Hancock County, IL to Chellis and June (Young) Slusher. Dean grew up west of Plymouth, IL and in Carthage, IL. He graduated from Carthage High School in 1941. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. During his life he worked as a farmer, had a Roto Rooter franchise and was a deputy Sheriff in Danville, IL. He has lived in AZ since 1985, where he was a truck driver and served on the search and rescue team for a number of years. He first married Marjorie Flack in 1941. In 1997 he married Joan Wiley. He is survived by his wife, Joan, daughter, Margo Ayala, son and daughter-in-law, Dean Kent & Virginia Slusher, five grandchildren, Douglas (Zona) Slusher, Michelle (Eric) Hobaugh, Todd, John (Tracy), and Joel Byerly, five great-grandchildren, Matthew and Krysta Slusher, Summer Byerly, and Brian and Kathrine Hobaugh, and one great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, Chellis & June Slusher and his sister, Betty Yeargin. A memorial service will be held for Dean on Saturday, January 17, 2015 a 2:00 pm at Caldwell Funeral Chapel in Safford, AZ.
