Marcus M. Holmgren 1930 ~ 2009 Marcus Madson Holmgren, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away surrounded by his family on December 28, 2009. Born July 31, 1930 to Homer and Marco Madson Holmgren in Salt Lake City, UT. He graduated from East High School and the University of Utah, and served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Sweden from 1950-52. He gained a great love of Sweden and the Swedish people which lasted throughout his life. He often remarked that not a day passed that he did not think of Sweden. He married his sweetheart, Karin Finlayson May 3, 1956 in the Salt Lake Temple. They are the parents of five children. Marcus and Karin were constant companions and their devotion to one another has been an example to those around them. He loved his family very much and loved being together. He served in the US Air Force for 21 years, retiring in 1977 in San Antonio, TX. Soon after, he was called to serve as Mission President in the Sweden Stockholm Mission from 1978-81. He loved his missionaries with all his heart and his association with them and their families brought him great joy. He later served a mission with Karin in the Sweden Stockholm Temple. He had the opportunity to serve in many church callings throughout his life and loved the gospel. Most recently he worked as a sealer in the Jordan River Temple. He loved the temple and had joy in serving others. He had a strong testimony of the Book of Mormon and Jesus Christ which he loved to share with his family and those around him. He preceded in death by his parents; son, Erik Marcus Holmgren; brother, Richard Holmgren. Survived by his wife, Karin; daughters, Ann Roberts and Jane (Steve) Brown; sons, John (Leslie) Holmgren and Nels (Emily) Holmgren; 11 grandsons and 11 granddaughters, as well as 2 great-granddaughters. Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 31, 2009, 11:00 a.m. at the Taylorsville West Stake Center, 4950 South 1950 West. Viewings will be held Wednesday, December 30, 2009, 6-8 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road and Thursday at the church, 10-10:45 a.m. Interment, Salt Lake City Cemetery.
