Maria Varela

Maria Refugio Lopez Varela, 91 of Clifton passed away April 6, 2010 in Thatcher. She was born in Chihuahua, Mexico on April 8, 1918 and came to the USA in 1961. She has resided in Clifton since 1965. In her younger years, Maria enjoyed rock collecting, landscaping, baking and crocheting. As a young teenager Maria became her mothers sole provider until her death in 1978. In 1970 she married Felix Varela. Maria worked as a housekeeper was a member of the Potters House Church in Clifton. She peacefully passed away at J & B Assisted Living with her loving caregiver, Barbara Rose, at her side. Maria was preceded in death by her husband Felix Varela, parents Silverio & Manuela Veleta Lopez, siblings Julio, Lucio, Lugardo, Oscar, Rita Gonzalez and Celia Juarez. She is survived by her sister Aurora Arrieta, niece Olivia Arrieta, step daughter Maria Luisa Varela and several nieces and nephews in Mexico, Colorado and Texas. Funeral Services will be conducted Friday, April 16, 2010 at 1 p.m. at the Potters House Church in Clifton. Interment will follow in the Wards Canyon Cemetery.
