Marion Vier

August 11, 1920 — December 20, 2007

Marion Corson Vier 1920 ~ 2007 Marion Corson Vier, 87, died December 20, 2007 after a long illness with Alzheimers disease. She was born in Denver, CO where at the age of 3 she was rendered totally deaf after contracting the measles. A year later her parents were instrumental in establishing the first class for the deaf within the Denver Public School system. Throughout grade and junior high school Marion attended speech and lip reading classes while maintaining a full regular schedule of courses with normal-hearing students. By lip reading she could communicate with everyone so easily that most strangers who conversed with her did not realize that she was deaf. She graduated high school with a straight A record, 4th in her class of over 700 normal-hearing students. At age 27 she received a Ph. D. degree in Biochemistry from the University of Colorado Medical School. In 1949 Marion moved to Los Alamos where she worked as a chemical biologist for 5 years. During that time she met her husband, Dwayne, and they were married in 1951. She retired when pregnant with the first of her two sons. She was a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority from her college days as well as a charter member (over 50 years) of the Los Alamos AK Chapter of PEO. She spent the last eight years of her life in Escondido, CA to be near her two sons. Marion and Dwayne were inseparable, married for 52 years until Dwaynes death in 2003. Beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Marion is survived by her two sons, David Corson Vier and wife Deborah of Escondido, CA and Alan Dwayne Vier of Bell Canyon, CA; granddaughters, Christina and Megan Vier, Shari Rendall and Michelle Gross; great granddaughters, Sidney Gross, Bethany and Amanda Rendall; great grandson, Matthew Rendall; nieces Louise Smullin, Carol Yates, Shirley Jacobsen and Laura Lenard; and nephews, Dwayne Benson, Carl Benson and Paul Benson. Marion will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her. She will continue to live on in our hearts and minds. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 28, 2007, 10:00 am at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 S. Redwood Road, Taylorsville, UT. Donations in Marion's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
