Marlene Lorensen

October 6, 1937 — July 16, 2009

Marlene Hanson Lorensen October 6, 1937 July 16, 2009 On July 16, 2008, Marlene Hanson Lorensen left the Huntsman Cancer Hospital with a vision of future years filled with the enjoyment of family, friends, and service in her Church. On July 16, 2009, Marlene left the same hospital, but with a different destination and a new type of service. Her tired body could not withstand the effects of a second bout with cancer. Born October 6, 1937, just six minutes before her twin arrived, Marlene was the daughter of Roy David Hanson and Johanna Magdalena Wolf Hanson. Marlene served in the Andes Peru Mission from February, 1960 to March, 1962. She also served with her sister in the SL Valley Regional Mission from July, 1962 to January, 1965. As a dedicated member of the LDS Church, Marlene served as the President of the Primary, Relief Society, and Young Women organizations, and probably loved the young women most. Marlene gave true service as she made numerous quilts, baby blankets, and hats for humanitarian services, inner-city schools, and hospitals. Many new mothers benefitted from her personal gifts. Marlene loved everyone she met. Married Burton Lorensen on January 18, 1974 in the Salt Lake Temple. Their entire married life was spent in Taylorsville, Utah. Their children include Tiffanie Lorensen and Crystal Lorensen (Javier) Montes. Marlene loved to spoil her grandchildren that Crystal brought into her life: Angel, Ariana, Taina, and Yesenia. She is survived by her husband, Burton, her twin-sister Josephine (Devel) Gedge, Harold (Fern) Hanson, and Wayne Hanson. She was preceded in death by a sister Grace, and brothers Melvin and Kenneth. A viewing will be held Monday, July 20, from 6-8 p.m. at the McDougal Funeral home on 4330 South Redwood Road. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 21, at 11:00 a.m. in the Bennion 4th Ward LDS chapel on 6030 Kamas Drive (off 6200 South at 2480 West), with a viewing at 10:00 a.m. prior to services. Entombment will be after the services in Redwood Memorial Park, 6500 South Redwood Road.
