Mary Speetzen

Mary Karan Kirk Speetzen Wife, Mother and Our Buddy Karen passed away unexpectedly Friday, November 27, 2009. She was born October 27, 1955 to George NicholasNick and VelDean McAllister Kirk. Karan was diagnosed with Diabetes after the birth of her only child, Dustin Dean, at the age of 25. She enjoyed working as a cake decorator at Smiths for many years. She went on to marry Tom Speetzen in 1995 and together they faced all the adversities that came their way. Tom always stood beside her and did everything he could to help her. They truly had a one of a kind bond and shared the same twisted sense of humor. Karan is survived by her loving husband, Tom; son, Dustin, whom she truly loved unconditionally; mother, VelDean Kirk; 2 dogs, Jazz and Oggie, who were always there to comfort her; sister, Barb (Bruce) Webb; brother Mike (Jackie) Kirk; sister, Tami Stewart; 19 nieces and nephews who were very special to her. Preceded in death by her father; sister, Debra; mother-in-law, Helen Speetzen; grandmothers, Velma McAllister and Nora Tracy. The family would like to express a special thanks to Dr. John Dietlein and the many other doctors who helped Karan through the years. A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 5, 2009, 2:00 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road, Taylorsville, UT. In lieu of flowers contributions in Karans name may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
