Mavis Skinner

Mavis Leola Skinner, 83, passed away July 31, 2010, in Riverton, UT at the home of her daughter Paula Norby. Mavis was born May 8, 1927 in Newry, South Carolina to Simon Edward Phillips and Sarah Elizabeth Herbert. When Mavis was a young girl her family moved to Ft. Thomas where she later graduated high school and met her sweetheart Arnold Skinner of Safford. They were married in June of 1946. At various stages of their married life, Mavis and Arnold lived in Safford, Willcox, Buckeye, and Mesa. She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; serving throughout her life, including two years as a Church Service Missionary at the Family History Center in Mesa. In July of 2009, Mavis moved to Riverton to live with her daughter. She is survived by her children, Brent (Helen) Skinner, Phillip (Kayola) Skinner, Paula (Scott) Norby, and Beth (Bill) Slawson. There are 24 grandchildren and 42 and counting great-grandchildren. She leaves behind 3 sisters Marie Knight, Dora Reeves and Jessie (Delbert) Reed and one brother Nelson Phillips. She was preceded in death by a son, Verlon F. Skinner, husband, Arnold P. Skinner, and brothers, Herphil and Horace Phillips. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, August 7, 2010 at 12 noon in the LDS Meadowgreen Ward Building, 851 S. 32nd Street in Mesa with viewing one hour prior to services. Concluding Services will follow in the City of Mesa Cemetery.
