Maxine Layton, 85, of Safford passed away on March 2, 2012. She was born on April 3, 1926 in Safford to Joseph and Beatrice McRae. Maxine was raised and attended school in Thatcher. She attended the Gila Academy and received her Associates Degree. She worked for family store, McRae Variety Store in Thatcher while her father worked for the Railroad Depot. She served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Central States Mission. She worked for the telephone company before and after her mission and other times throughout her life. Throughout her life she served on PTAs, and was active in her childrens lives. She loved to cook. She lived in Miami, AZ for six years. She owned and operated C& M Arts and Crafts, with her husband Clyde. Then she was a Hearing Specialist for The Family Hearing Care, which she owned. She is survived by her daughters, Marilyn (Danny) Rapier of Thatcher; Charlene(Delbert)Leafty of Prescott Valley; her sons, Larry (Lori) Layton of Austin, TX; Keith Layton of Chino Hills, CA; 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clyde; daughter, Rochelle; son-in-law, Keith Claridge; brother, Carroll McRae; and sister, Deloras Turner. A Viewing will be held on Friday, March 9th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at McDougal's Caldwell Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 10th at 11:00 a.m. at the Solomon LDS Church, with a viewing one hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Thatcher Cemetery.
