Our grandfather, Melvin Mull, peacefully entered into rest on Friday, March 7th, 2014 at his home in Peridot, Arizona at the age of 86. Melvin Tootie Mull was born in Bylas, Arizona on April 3, 1928 to the late George Mull and the late Katherine Hunter. He spent his childhood in Bylas, Arizona where he entered the workforce at an early age to provide for his family. Melvin worked as a laborer, a rancher and a cook. He worked for the various San Carlos cattle associations. As a cook, he was known for his cowboy biscuits, his pies, and spansy skanster. Melvin Mull enlisted in the Army on May 15, 1946 and he was honorably discharged on August 11, 1948. After he was honorably discharged, he returned from Bylas where he met and married Fern Jackson. They had 3 children. In 2010, Melvin was the grand marshal for the San Carlos Veterans Parade. In 2011, he won the title of Grandfather of the Year. Melvin was also a two time Valentine King at the Older Adult Center. Grandpa was also known for watching sports on ESPN and also being the first one at the Sunrise Ceremonies and the last one to leave. His favorite place to eat was Jerrys in Safford. We knew when grandpa wanted to sing, he would clear his throat and start singing I love just because you look so prettylove you just because.love you so. In the last couple weeks, when grandpa went home, he had many visitors that included family, friends, and OAC friends and the fellow veterans. While visiting with him, we heard them laughing and praying with him. Melvin is survived by his two daughters, Darlene Daddys Girl Longstreet, and Velma Torres, and his son Fernando Mull. One brother, Hiriam Mull, 8 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. He is preceded in death by his wife, Fern Jackson and his parents, George Mull & Katherine Hunter. A wake will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, March 14, 2014 at the Melvin Mull residence in Peridot, Arizona. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at the Lighthouse Assembly of God Church in Bylas. Interment to follow at the Bylas Veteran's Cemetery.
