Merlyn George Larsen 1938 ~ 2007 Merlyn G. Larsen, age 68, of Salt lake City, Utah, passed away at his home on November 20, 2007 after a long and heroic struggle with cancer. He was born on December 23, 1938 in Ely, Nevada, to George and Merl Larsen. He worked hard during his lifetime without complaint. He had extensive training on complex machinery involved in cinder block production, perfecting techniques leading to todays block used in a number of buildings throughout the United States. Over the past several years, Merlyn worked as a security guard at Securitas. Merlyn was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and spent time in various parts of the country holding positions in the church. He was a good man with a tender heart. He wanted to give so much more, but due to failing health and almost a complete loss of hearing, he slipped quietly away from us too soon. He was preceded in death by his parents; an older sister, Shirley Winberg, of Riverton, UT; his former wife, Joyce Clayton Larsen of Tucson, AZ. He is survived by his sister, Kathryn (Dennis) Patterson of Axtell, UT; brother, David (Pam) Larsen of Holladay, UT; three daughters, Deborah Parson, USAF (retired) (Michael, USAF [retired]) of Roseburg, OR, Pamela (Todd) Pace of Holladay, UT, Brenda (Steve) Hook of Bluffdale, UT. Merlyn also had two stepsons whom he raised from early childhood and he loved them so very much. They are Eddie Clayton and his family and Robert Clayton and his wife, all residing in Phoenix, AZ. Thirteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive him. We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the medical professionals at the Utah Cancer Center and to his job supervisors who worked with him so closely to tailor his working hours around his terrible illness A visitation and memorial service to honor Merlyns life will be held on Tuesday, November 27, 2007 at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road from 6-8 p.m. His burial urn will be vaulted in a private ceremony following a memorial and farewell tribute. Dad, grandpa, friendWe will miss you more than we imagined. We will not stand at your urn and cry, for you are not there and did not simply die. You will always surround us when the wind blows, the stars twinkle, the sun shines, and when the clouds bring more rain. Well see you when our time on earth is done. Please wait for us with open arms. We know God reached out for you and brought you home because it was timeno more loneliness, sorrow, pain and suffering. We love you!
