Muriel Ruth Carter, 79, of Safford entered into rest Thursday, March 11, 2010 surrounded by her loving family. She was born September 2, 1930 in Chicago, Illinois to John Carl and Freida Bertha Lillian Dittman Hildebrandt. Muriel grew up in the Chicago area graduating from Maine Township High School East. She worked many years for Burchards Cleaners, later moving to Willcox, Arizona in 1970. Muriel provided day care for many years and owned & operated the Apache Lanes Bowling Alley in Willcox. In 1990, she relocated to Safford and began working at Wal-Mart in the fabric department. Muriel was a member of the Methodist Church and enjoyed tending her flowers. She especially loved to be with and entertain family and friends. Muriel was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Phyllis Rehrig, son Scott Carter, brothers Glenn, John, Harvey and Calvin Hildebrandt. She is survived by her children Paul David (Marjie) Carter of Texas, Carrie (Ronnie) Glaspie of Thatcher, Kim Carter of Tucson, Denise (Hector) Benton of Thatcher, 7 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and sisters Arline Orchowski of Surprise and Justine Bova of Iowa, many beloved nieces & nephews and countless wonderful friends. Funeral Services will be conducted Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at 11 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church of Safford. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Caldwell Funeral Chapel and one hour prior to funeral services at the Church. Muriel will be laid to rest in the Safford Cemetery.
