Neil Thompson Trapper Neil Thompson, 85, passed away peacefully at home in the arms of his loving and devoted wife on Saturday, September 27, 2008. He suffered for 7 years with the ravages of Alzheimers. Neil was born April 19, 1923 in Gateshead, England, to Herbert Scott Thompson and Beatrice Atkinson Thompson. He spent his formative years and was educated in Dundee, Scotland. In June, 1940, he enrolled in the Royal Navy and served for 5 years. Neil participated in the D-Day invasion as part of the naval support group and as such was one of the greatest generation. He married Elena Bainton on December 25, 1943. To this union three children were born. They were later divorced. Neil worked 37 years for the IRS in Wales before emigrating to America. He married Valerie Lofthouse in Sandy, Utah on May 16, 1981. Neil was a kind, gentle and dignified man who loved animals, taking drives in the Utah canyons with his family and dogs, wandering around the West on his drive abouts, and traveling the world with Valerie. Going through the Great Depression did not color his positive approach to life. His unique sense of humor and quick wit were enduring qualities enjoyed by all who met him. He was a very caring and giving gentleman. Integrity was his hallmark, never gaining an advantage at the expense of another. Neil is survived by his wife of 27 years, Valerie; sons, Allan (Sally) Thompson, North Salt Lake and Mark (Leisa) Thompson, Wales, UK; stepson, Michael (Angie) McIff, Helper, Utah; 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; chosen daughter, Jayleen Collins and numerous close friends.
