It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing Nick Michalegko, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend. Nick departed this world on June 16, 2024, in his hometown of Safford, Arizona. He was born on February 17, 1929, in Mayburg, Pennsylvania, to Michael & Anastasia Michalegko.
Nick led a life filled with purpose and dedication. Graduating from high school in Genesee Pennsylvania in 1946, he went on to join the United States Army on June 25 of the same year. Serving with the 82nd Airborne, Nick's commitment to his country was unwavering until his honorable discharge on November 5, 1947.
Throughout his life, Nick was known for his warm personality and loving spirit. His favorite saying "What's for dinner???" echoed through the halls of those who knew him best. He was truly blessed and deeply cherished by all who had the privilege of crossing paths with him.
Nick's passion for gardening, volunteering, and sharing stories of his early years endeared him to everyone he met. A patriot through and through, he exuded pride in his country and community. Nick's proudest accomplishments included serving as Assistant Fire Chief with the Safford Fire Department, being a part of the Military Honor Guard, actively participating in the American Legion, among many other endeavors that showcased his dedication to serving others.
Nick Michalegko leaves behind a legacy that will be forever cherished by his surviving family including his devoted spouse Julia Ann Williams Michalegko. He is reunited in peace with his father Michael Michalegko, mother Anastasia Holowczak Michalegko, sons Steve and Jim Michalegko, as well as siblings John, Ann, Paul, Peter, Charles and Maria.
A graveside service to honor Nick, Steve, and Jims lives will take place on July 20th at Safford Cemetery in Safford, Arizona. The ceremony will commence at 10:00 AM followed by a final farewell at 11:00 AM at The Safford American Legion.
In conclusion, Nick's presence will be deeply missed but his memories will forever be treasured by those fortunate enough to have known him. May he rest in eternal peace knowing that he touched the lives of many with his kindness and unwavering love.
