Norine Bates, 90, of Duncan passed away on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at Mt. Graham Regional Medical Center in Safford. She was born on May 28, 1921 in Farmington, NM to Walter Attaway and Mary Willis Attaway. She married Elbert R. Bates in 1942, in Deming, NM. They were four month short of celebrating 70 years together. Norine moved to Arizona at an early age and as spent most of her life in Duncan. As a youth she helped to build the Church of Christ building in Duncan. She was a Godly women of faith, and served in the church. She was an excellent cook as well. She is survived by her husband, Elbert Bates of Duncan; sons, Kenneth (Beth) Bates of Stanwood, WA, and Gary Bates of Camp Verde, AZ; daughters, Paula (Joe) Gould of Duncan, and Doris (Keith) McIntosh of Everett, WA; 12 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at the Duncan Church of Christ. Viewing will be one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be in the Duncan Cemetery.
