Orlando W. McBride, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on October 27, 2023, at the age of 78. Orlando was born on April 27, 1945 to Evelyn (Watson) and Orlando Sims McBride in Safford, Arizona. His siblings were Evelyn Joy Barnes and Larry Wimmer born to Ivan Wimmer (Step-Father).
Growing up in Safford, Orlando attended and graduated from Safford High School in 1963. Following his passion for education, he pursued higher studies at Arizona State University, where he obtained his Bachelor's degree in 1971. He went on to further his expertise by obtaining a Master's degree in technology in 1975.
On September 8, 1967, Orlando entered into a sacred marriage covenant with the love of his life, Marsha Hughes, in the Mesa Temple. Together, they were blessed with nine children; Orlando H., Sean, Hyrum, Daniel, Cynthia, Melissa, Beverly, Jennifer, and Bryan. Orlando found great joy in being a dedicated father and grandfather to his 34 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Orlando dedicated over 20 years of his professional life as a high school and college automotive and welding teacher, as well as excelling in facility maintenance and mechanics. His passion for cars, particularly building engines and racing, was evident to all who knew him. Alongside this, he enjoyed being involved in track and field, whether as a coach or avid spectator. In his leisure time, Orlando could often be found camping or tending to his beloved garden.
Throughout his life, Orlando sought opportunities to serve and uplift others. Among his notable accomplishments, he was recognized as an Outstanding Young Man of America and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. His love for his faith led him to participate in meaningful life events, including volunteer work at the Nauvoo & British Pageants for two years and serving on two missions: one in his youth and another with his wife in the New York Rochester Mission. Their mission provided them the chance to serve at historic sites such as the Hill Cumorah Visitors Center, Smith Family Farm, Book of Mormon Historic Site (Grandin Building), and Whitmer Farm.
Orlando will be remembered for his sharp wit, his ability to fix anything, and his deep knowledge and wisdom. He possessed a remarkable ability to listen and connect with others, leaving a lasting impact on all those fortunate enough to have crossed his path.
