Orton Eugene Lewis Gene Orton Eugene Lewis "Gene" graduated from mortality quietly in his sleep February 8, 2010 at 93 years old. He was born August 7, 1916 to Joseph Howard and Olive Luna Beach Lewis. Married Lorna Abbott May 16, 1944. They were parents of sons: Stephen and Roy and daughters: Judy Roland, Jean Marie Lyautey (deceased), Susan Lewis, Ruth Crisler and Lillian Lewis. After Lorna passed away, Gene was blessed to rekindle a romance of 45 years previous with Elda Pope Thatcher. They were married May 2, 1987. He became father to her 12 children: Marian Chariat, Dennis, Eldon, Tom, Irene Allen (deceased), Kent, Janet Labrum, Orlan, Ted, Clinton, Jim, and Sandy Powell. He was a wonderful grandfather to 64 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. Gene served as a Seabee during WWII, worked as a heavy equipment mechanic and warehouse specialist. Retired from the Nevada Test Site then was recalled for another 10 years. He joined the LDS Church during the Depression and was active and faithful the remainder of his life. The family wishes to give special thanks to the people of Sunrise Home Health and Hospice who helped so much during Genes last few weeks. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 13, 2010, 2:00 p.m. at the Pioneer Park Ward, 610 West 300 South, Provo, UT where a viewing will be held, 1-1:45 p.m. prior to services. Graveside services will be held Monday, January 15, 2010, 2:00 p.m. at the Eden Vale Cemetery, Las Vegas, NV. Arrangements under the direction of McDougal Funeral Home.
