Patricia (Pat) Romero Fowler passed away peacefully in her sleep March 30, 2014, from complications of a massive stroke. She was born March 31, 1944 and lived in Clifton, Arizona most of her life. After attending Clifton elementary and high school, she attended St. Marys School of Nursing and worked as a nurses aide at Morenci Hospital. Although, she considered becoming a nun and a nurse, these aspirations changed when her high school sweetheart, Harold Dean Fowler returned from serving in the Air Force and asked her to marry. They married in 1963 and had two children Harold Damian and Vanessa Elizabeth. Harold died in a car accident in 1969. After his death, Pat knew she needed to provide for her children, so she started to attend night school. She completed an Associates Degree from Eastern Arizona College in 1973, and then went to Arizona State University to complete a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education in 1975, and a Master of Arts in Special Education in 1978. Pat started her career, teaching 6th grade children with disabilities in Ft. Thomas. After, she obtained a cross-category resource teaching position at Modoc Elementary School in Morenci, where she taught elementary school students with special needs. She also taught GED at night and completed additional courses at EAC, UofA, ASU, and NAU to continue her education and learn new teaching methodologies. She retired after 24 years of teaching, and continued taking courses of interest in art and religion. In 2002, she completed her Doctoral Degree in Comparative Religion. She was a devoted mom, daughter, sister and friend. Pat enjoyed her family, her kids (students), her cats, playing and of course winning the casino slots, riding in the rain, telling jokes, and reading. Pat loved to learn and laugh. She consistently shared something she had discovered and always wanted to hear a good joke. She was smart, optimistic, faithful, caring, and loving. Pat is survived by her son, Harold Damian Fowler; daughter, Vanessa Fowler Sandoval and son-in-law Raul Sandoval; granddaughters, Lita Fowler, Alyssandra Sandoval, and Lorena Sandoval; brother, Roger Romero; nephews, Roger Andrew Romero and Michael Romero, and many other relatives. She is preceded in death by her parents, Salvador and Marcelina Cervantez Romero, her daughter-in-law Tammy Fowler and granddaughter Katy Fowler and many other relatives. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Pats life on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at a Catholic Mass at the Sacred Heart Church in Clifton, Arizona. Pat will be cremated and laid to rest next to her beloved Harold in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Morenci, Arizona after the Mass.
