Peggy Ferguson

May 13, 1934 — March 31, 2017

Peggy Jean Ferguson, 82, of Safford peacefully entered into eternal rest at home, with her family at her side, Friday, March 31, 2017. Peggy was born May 13, 1934 in Wynnewood, OK to John and Alice Chism. She was the youngest of seven children. Soon after she was born her family moved to Arizona where she grew up in the Globe/Miami area. She attended Miami schools and graduated in 1953. There she met her high school sweetheart, Gary Ferguson. They were married, June 17, 1954 in Miami and were later sealed in the LDS Mesa Arizona Temple. She attended Northern Arizona University and after graduating, moved to Solomon where they met many lifelong friends. In 1966, they moved to Safford. She belonged to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in the ward and stake Primary presidencies, relief society president and many other callings. Peggy was a homemaker and mother. After the kids were well into school, she began working at Ivanho Trailer Park where she retired after 20+ years. She loved cooking, her green chili and lemon cake are well known and loved by many. Some of her retirement hobbies and likes were watching Arizona sports teams the Diamondbacks, Suns and Cardinals, word searches, Yahtzee, and taking scrapbook classes at EAC. Peggy loved being a mother to her children and a grandmother to her grand and great grandchildren. She always enjoyed spending time with each of them and was the best supporter to all of their events and activities throughout the years. Although she had many health issues her last few years, Peggy's loving and positive nature was felt by everyone she came in contact with. She would always say "It's just one more thing I will get through" as she handled with such grace with each of her trials. Peggy is survived by her sweet husband of 62 years, Gary, her daughter Terri Ferguson, of Phoenix, son Bill (Teresa) Ferguson, of Safford, daughter Kim (Ray) Orr, of Thatcher, son Wayne (Tracey) Ferguson, of Safford, 14 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Services were held on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with interment in the Thatcher Cemetery.
