Raul Dominguez

Raul L. "Popo" Dominguez, 79, of Clifton, passed away on Thursday, January 5, 2012 at Mt. Graham Regional Medical. He was born on April 29, 1932 in Clifton, to Mike Dominguez and Egnocia LaBrada Dominguez. He attended Clifton High School graduating in the Class of 1950. After Graduation he proceeded to work for Phelps Dodge Corp. for one year, and then enlisted in the United States Air Force. He had an honorable discharge in 1955 after serving his country for four years, and went back to work for Phelps Dodge Corp. He married Betty Jo Slate in 1961 and together they raised 7 children. He retired in 1996 from Phelps Dodge after 41 years. Raul was a loving and devoted father who loved being with his family. He enjoyed the holidays, family gatherings, and sports. He was a member of the Clifton American Legion Post 28, the Beneficio Propio Club, and the Sacred Heart Parish. He is survived by his sons, Michael (Laura) Dominguez of Morenci, and Rex (Pam) Jones of Clifton; daughters, Shirley (Mike) Stewart of Payson, Barbara Larson of Clifton, Angel Pena of Tucson, and Ashley Carmillo of Phoenix; and a brother, Richard Dominguez of Oklahoma; 15 grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife of 46 years, Betty Jo Dominguez; sister, Lilly Dominguez; and daughter, Lynn Gentry. Mass of a Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Clifton, with Rev. Father Edward Lucero as Celebrant. Friends may call from 9-11 a.m. with the rosary being recited at 10 a.m. Interment will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery with military honors from Clifton American Legion Post 28.
