Gus Chappell The Best Things in Life Arent Things Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Richard Angus Gus Chappell, 71, died after a prolonged illness April 21, 2009 in West Valley City, Utah, surrounded by his wife and children. Gus was born May 23, 1937 in Lyman, Utah to Lee and Ardeen Okerlund Chappell. He graduated from Wayne High School, fulfilled an LDS mission in the Eastern States, and served active duty for the Army National Guard. Gus married Peggy Jones May 14, 1965 in the Manti Temple. He worked as a maintenance foreman for the LDS Church and served as a bishop in the Condie Park Ward. He loved to hunt, fish and camp in the mountains of his beloved Wayne County. Gus was a talented woodworker and handyman. His proudest accomplishment was his family. Gus is survived by his wife, Peggy; children: Paula (Dan) Bergenthal, Shauna (Lawrence) Pace, Brenda (Eric) Despain, Scott (Fedra) Chappell, Dan (Jessica) Chappell; 14 grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; brothers: Jack (Owena), Van (Daphne), Albert (Teddy) and George (Rhonda); sisters: Bessie Taylor, Ruth (Calvin) Mills; sister-in-law, Carla (Dilworth) Lyman. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Tom; son-in-law, David Gunn; granddaughter, Brianne Pace; brother-in-law, Harold Taylor. We will miss him for his giant heart, generosity, compassion, concern for his family, and his unique sense of humor. We love him and know he will be ours forever. A funeral service will be held Saturday, April 25, 2009, 1:00 p.m. at the LDS Church, 4251 South 4800 West. Viewings will be held Friday, April 24, 2009, 6-8 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood and Saturday at the church, 12-12:45 p.m. Interment, Valley View Memorial Park.
