Richard Green

Richard E. Green, 75, passed away on Saturday, September 19 at his home. Richard was born on January 12, 1934 to Orville and Mary Green in Safford. He attended Safford schools and after graduating from NAU, he returned to Safford to teach arts and crafts at Safford High School for 31 years. He also coached track for 13 years. He got interested in weight-lifting and had a team that competed around the country. He also coached for the U.S.A. National Weightlifting Association in Jamaica, Europe, Mexico, and was picked to coach U.S. Lifters in the World Championships in the Philippines. Safford held a Dick Green Day to help raise funds for this important trip. He was married to his college sweetheart for 54 years. He is survived by his wife, Carol Ann, son Rick (Christy) Green, daughter Sharon (Brian) Montoya, and seven grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church Friday, September 25, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers please make donations in Richards name to Mt. Graham Hospital Auxiliary.
