Richard Haggin

October 25, 1924 — March 25, 2009

Richard I. Haggin Noogie Richard I. Dick Haggin passed away on the evening of March 25, 2009 after almost 85 years of embodying the spirit of his favorite saying: Though others may scoff and jest, a life of service is the best. Richard defined service through his actions toward others. Family, friends, sometimes even strangers... Those who knew him, know the truth: Richard Haggin, quite simply, was a man who could be counted upon. Generous almost to a fault, he was cheerful in his desire to help anyone in any way he could. Plus, he was a funny guy who did funny things. The story of our dad gamely attempting to row a boat with the anchor still overboard is one of many classics. An outdoorsman our dad was not. A fixture at the old Salt Palace for Golden Eagles games, Richard loved hockey especially if Lyle Bradley or Wayne Gretzky was playing. He loved the music of Mickey Newbury and Johnny Cash. He loved his friends: the Listuls, the Montoyas, the Pecks, the Halls, the Bradleys, and the many, many others too numerous to mention here.. He loved his wife, our mother, Mary Jo who preceded him in death and he loved his son Douglas who went before him as well. And he loved us: Dan, David, Richard, Ron and Chris- we saw it in his eyes every single time he looked upon us. Dick Haggin was one of the good guys and though the world will continue to turn, its a world thats just a little less special without our Dad. The Haggin family expresses our deepest thanks to those who cared for our father in his final days: the staff at Davis Hospital, Vista Care and the fine folks at McDougal Funeral Homes where friends may gather on Monday evening, March 30, 2009, to celebrate Dicks life from the hours of 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will follow on Tuesday, March 31, 2009 at 12 noon also at McDougal Funeral Home. Interment, Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery Mausoleum.
