Richard "Dickey Bird" Darrell Nielson Sr., 81, passed away surrounded by his loving family on May 4, 2021 in Tucson, Arizona. He was born on October 22, 1939 to Mildred 'Dot' Dortha (Sligar) and Richard Deane Nielson in Bisbee, Arizona. After graduating High School he went on to work for Magma Copper Mine in San Manuel, Arizona. He met and married his soulmate Vickey Cole and just celebrated their 51st Anniversary on April 11, 2021. He is survived by his loving wife Vickey, children; Richard Darrell Nielson Jr., Blaine Nielson, Wendi Nielson, Jarrod Nielson, and Derrin Nielson, grandchildren; Pepper, Devon, Brittany, Rickey, Arlinda, Sydney, Tanner, and Dillon, great-grandchildren; Dillon and Kadence, siblings; Louise Cole, Jimmy (Judy) Nielson, and Danny Nielson, and many family and friends. "Dickey Bird" never met a stranger, he was a devoted Christian, Husband, Father, Brother, and Friend. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, May 15, 2021 at the First Baptist Church located at 1st Avenue, San Manuel, Arizona 85631. A Visitation will be held at 10:00 AM, Sunday, May 16, 2021 at McDougal's Caldwell Funeral Chapel located at 112 E. Main St. Safford, Arizona 85546. A Graveside Service will be held at 12:00 PM, Sunday May 16, 2021 at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens off of Savannah Road and Airport Road in Graham County near Safford, Arizona.
