Roger Borkgren

March 27, 1949 — December 13, 2007

Roger W Borkgren Gone Fishing After a long and valiant struggle with lung cancer, Roger W. Borkgren passed away peacefully on December 13, 2007, with his wife and grandson at his side. Born in Davenport, Iowa, March 27, 1949, he was the only son of Lloyd and Dorothy Borkgren. Roger lived in Davenport, Iowa, throughout his childhood. He later moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, where he was employed for eighteen years at the University Medical Center. It was there that he met and fell in love with Joan Horbelt. They were married on July 27, 1998. Although he did not have any children of his own, he took her children under his wing and raised them as if they were his. When he retired from UMC, he moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, to be closer to his stepchildren. He was employed here at Primary Childrens Medical Center, and then Cottonwood Hospital. It was here in Salt Lake City where Roger found his faith again, and he was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The greatest joys in Rogers life were his family, his job, fishing, and horses. He always took great pride in everything he did. He was always quick with a joke, and his laughter will be missed by all who knew him. Roger was a generous, loving father, husband and friend. He loved people and they loved him back. He is survived by his wife, Joan and her children, Randall Bergstrom, Joe Rojas, Mack (Erin) Hullum, Julia (Anthony) Adams, Jean (Quentin) Headley and Leah Johnson; his father, Lloyd; his sisters, Sandra (Robert) Johnson, Donna (Steve) Engebretson and Carol Borkgren; 3 nieces and nephews; 5 grandnieces and grandnephews; his loving Aunt Marie; and nine grandchildren. Preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy; his loving Aunts Gladys and Florence. We would like to give special thanks to Dr. Richard Frame and the staff of Utah Cancer Specialists for giving us more precious moments together. Also the staff at Intermountain Homecare Hospice who made his last days comfortable and peaceful ones. You brought such joy into my life The day you chose me to be your wife And now it is time to set you free To soar with the angels eternally But in my heart you will always remain Until I am with you once again Funeral services will be held Monday, December 17, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road, where friends and family can gather on Sunday from 6-8 p.m. and Monday from 12-12:45 p.m. at the funeral home. At Rogers request, cremation will follow.
