Ronald Moir

December 1, 1941 — February 16, 2016

On February 16, 2016 Ronald L. Moir left his life just as he lived it in quiet dignity. He was a caring, loving and gentle man who always put his best efforts into everything that he did. Ron was born on December 1, 1941 in Bellingham, Washington. He was the son of Grant and Violet Leighton Moir. Ron spent his childhood living in Blaine, Cashmere, and Leavenworth Washington. He graduated from Pascoe High School in 1959. Ron joined the United States Navy in 1960. In 1965 he was spent to Officer's Candidate School in Newport News, Rhode Island. He was commissioned as an officer in the Supply Corps of the Navy. While serving as a comptroller at the Naval Examination Center at Great Lakes, Il, he graduated from Roosevelt University with a BS in Business Administration. He then served two tours of duty in Vietnam aboard the ammunition ship, USS Vesuvius. In 1970 Ron was sent back to Vietnam as a liaison logistics officer where he taught the South Vietnamese Navy to operate the railroad at Cat Lo. Ron was then stationed as a naval liaison officer to the US Air Force at Hill AFB, Utah. His last duty station with the Navy was serving aboard the repair ship, USS Hector.While stationed at Hill AFB he met his wife, Dollie Wikstrom. They were married March 4, 1972 in Elko, Nevada. They had three children, Tamara born in 1973, Scott (Esmerelda) born in 1974, and Daniel born in 1975. In 1991 Ron's first grandchild, Katherine-Lee was born. He raised her and always considered her his second daughter.In 1976, Ron joined the management training program with Thrifty Drug. In 1981 Ron was asked to open a Thrifty Drug in Thatcher, Arizona. After he left Thrifty Drug, Ron went to work for the Arizona Department of Corrections as a storekeeper at Ft. Grant and then as a warehouseman at San Jose. In 1989 he became an agent for the Arizona Daily Star and the Phoenix Republic. Ron greatly enjoyed bringing to his newspaper customers the best service he could deliver. Ron loved to fish, especially at Lost Dog on the Green River. He was an avid stamp collector. He loved to read, often completing two to three books a week. He also loved genealogy. Later in his life he loved to watch the golf tours on the Golf Channel. Ron is survived by his wife and children. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Sabrina Montano (Crystal), Nicholas Montano, Shaine Moir, Cassidy Moir, Jacob Moir, Morgan Moir, Leo Dunham, Rubi Hernandez, Evelyn Hernandez, Lluvia Hernandez, Daisy Hernandez, Belen Hernandez, and Luis Cervantes. Ron took special delight in his great granddaughter, Emma and her brother Jaxon. Ron is survived by his sister Shirley (Jim) Voss of East Wenatchee, WA and his brother David of Oregon.Ron was preceded in death by his parents, his stepfather, Richard Burelbach and his nephew, Shane Preston.Thank you to Tanya Tillman, PA, at the Gila Valley Clinic and Dr. Manuel Modiano for their gentle care of Ron. Thank you to the Rev. Allison Cornell of All Saints Episcopal Church who administered last rites to Ron. Thank you to the members of All Saints Episcopal Church, First United Methodist Church, St Paul's Episcopal Church, Pfugerville, TX, St Mary's Episcopal Church, Milton, FL and the Logan LDS Temple, Logan, UT. Your care and prayers for Ron are greatly appreciated. A memorial service for Ron will held Saturday, March 12, 2016 at 10:00 am at All Saints Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to All Saints Episcopal Church in Ron's name.
