Rosa Afton Gold Boam Afton Afton, born October 14, 1914 to Rosa Birch and Alma Nephi Gold, peacefully slipped away, comforted by a sweet daughter singing primary songs to her, November 2, 2010. She was 96 years old and even though her mind was strong her body just gave out. She was a planner and organizer and continued in that fashion to the very end, planning her own birthday celebration with family and friends just a few weeks ago. She married Grant Odell Boam September 16, 1936 in the Salt Lake Temple. They were a constant team and support for each other. Grant passed away August 4, 1998 ~ what a joyous reunion they are having now! She leaves her family and community with many fond memories because she touched their lives. She was an avid crocheter, quilter and embroiderer. She always had a cookie jar filled with homemade cookies, loved games and played cards with her friends until the end. She and Grant served an LDS mission to San Antonio, Texas, loved those she served and went the extra mile. She was a letter writer and wrote to missionaries, grandchildren, friends, Sunday School students and football coaches on a regular basis. She was an avid sports fan, especially of BYU football. As she was slipping away from us Monday, some of her last words were, Whos playing? (In the Monday night football game). Survived by loving children: Anne (Richard, deceased) Smith, Wayne (Sharon) Boam, Joyce (Brent) Anderson and Lee (Myrna) Boam; foster children: Jane (Sherwin) Seamons and Gary (Joan) Card; 22 grandchildren; 62 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; brother, Noel (Mary Beth) Gold; sister, Bonnie (Douglas) Hart. Special thanks to Yolanda and Ruth, her hospice care givers, for the several years of service. She loved you both so very much. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 6, 2010, 10:00 a.m. at the Taylorsville Stake Center, 1400 West 4800 South. Viewings will be held Friday, November 5, 2010, 6-8 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road and Saturday at the church, 9-9:45 a.m. Interment, Valley View Memorial Park. Because of Aftons extremely charitable nature, in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the LDS Humanitarian Fund.
